How do you guard your skin against the winter?

Winter has officially set in. Instead of being frustrated with dry, itchy skin, use these tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

1) Shed the dead skin cell buildup. If you exfoliate your skin regularly, your skin isn’t clogged by extra debris. Once your skin has a clean slate, your serums and moisturizers will perform better.

2) Switch up your moisturizer. Even if you classify your skin as oily or combination, you need to be adding extra moisture during the cold winter months. The dry air wreaks havoc on your skin’s moisture level. Amp up your moisturizer and your skin will be very happy!

3) Schedule a facial or a peel. Having a professional treatment will maximize your skin’s potential. A daily regime is a must, but to jet start your skin on the right path, receiving a facial or a peel will best prepare your skin for the cold, dry air.

4) Invest in a humidifier and turn the water temperature down. If you have a humidifier going, the chances of your skin drying out is much less likely. The small particles of H2O in the air will instantly add a layer of hydration protection for your skin. In addition, turning down the heat in your shower is a great option. The heat in the water will strip more moisture than a medium temperature.

5) Use a serum. Because your skin naturally becomes dehydrated in the winter, adding a hydrating serum to your winter regime is a must. The molecular makeup of a serum is much smaller than that of a moisturizer. Thus, the ingredients can penetrate deeper into your skin. This adds an extra shield of protection.
